Public's Support Needed for SB37
The City is Seeking Community Support in Favor of Senate Bill 37
The California State Governance and Finance Committee will be discussing the Vehicle License Fee adjustments on the Wednesday, March 15, 2017 meeting.
We have the support of the Mayor and Assembly Member Cervantes, but the City needs YOUR support !
The City of Eastvale is seeking citizen and resident support in favor of Senate Bill 37. SB 37 would restore the funding Eastvale lost in the 2004 Vehicle License Fee (VLF) property tax swap, which did not backfill property tax dollars for newly incorporated cities such as Eastvale. While every other city in California continues to receive these funds, Eastvale, Jurupa Valley, Menifee and Wildomar do not.
While we appreciate and understand the passage of SB 107, the County of Riverside chose to inequitably distribute funds to only three of the four new cities which did not include Eastvale. This decision has left Eastvale in an extreme financial disadvantage. To date, the City has lost over $16,124,920 million dollars in VLF revenue. The loss of this funding has especially impacted Eastvale’s public safety mission including funding for our public safety personnel.
Senate Bill 37, initiated by Senator Richard D. Roth and co-authored by Assembly Member Sabrina Cervantes would restore this funding, which every other newly incorporated city in California had received, to the cities of Eastvale, Jurupa Valley, Menifee and Wildomar. Each of these cities lost funding through no fault of their own, and this funding is critical for these cities’ residents, especially for residents in California’s newest city, Jurupa Valley. Senator Roth says "this is an issue I have been fighting for since before I was elected to the State Senate, and one I will continue to fight for until we have secured a victory. These cities, through no fault of their own, lost this funding which every other city in California has received. I am proud to have a strong partner in Assembly Member Cervantes, and I am confident that together we will secure this long overdue funding for our cities.”
